Security 'fast passes' to become available at SLC airport this summer
The Enterprise
Clear, a Palm Coast, Fla.-based firm that issues cards to pre-screened passengers, giving them access to special airport security lanes that speed them through the check-in process, has inked a contract with Salt Lake City International Airport.
All airlines operating from Salt Lake City, and their passengers, will be able to use Clear's "fast pass" lanes, before summer.
"Salt Lake City is an important market for business and leisure travelers and a significant part of Clears expansion plan," said Steven Brill, Clear's CEO. "We're eager to spread rapidly in the West and we applaud the Airport's leadership in bringing the program to their travelers."
Clear members are pre-screened by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and, after application approval, are provided with a card that allows exclusive access to Clear's security lanes nationwide. The Clear Card verifies a fingerprint or iris image selected by members during enrollment.
Clear currently operates 28 enrollment stations across the country and also brings mobile enrollment onsite to businesses nationwide. Clear has signed up more than 140,000 people nationwide since launching in July 2005.
Clear is operated by Verified Identity Pass Inc. Clear cards are accepted at 17 U.S. airports -- Albany, Cincinnati, Denver, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, LaGuardia (Central Terminal B Checkpoint), Little Rock, New York JFK (Terminals 1, 4 and 7), Newark (Terminal B2), Oakland, Orlando, Reno, San Francisco, San Jose, Washington, D.C.'s Reagan and Dulles, and Westchester. Atlanta, Oakland and Salt Lake City will be online soon. The annual fee of $100 (plus a $28 TSA vetting fee) is charged once applicants are approved by the government. Applicants start their enrollment at flyclear.com and complete the process at an enrollment location where their fingerprints and iris images are captured and their identification is validated.
"We are pleased to offer customers another option for efficiently navigating the security checkpoints," said Maureen Riley, executive director of the Salt Lake City Department of Airports, "It will streamline the process for all users."
