When distilling the pdf, make sure:
- Fonts are embedded (you can subset fonts.

- File is not optimized.
- There is no color conversion (deselect Convert CMYK to RGB in Distiller 3.0, and Leave Color Unchanged radio button in Distiller 4.0).
This is the best way to submit your COMPLETED AD, but provides limited editing.

Text Formats - Microsoft Word, Email
Please use word processing files for text submission only. If you wish to use photos or graphics in your ad, please submit them separately in any supported graphic format listed above. When submitting your ad text in e-mail, make sure to attach the graphics.
Do not use word processing documents for layout or design of your ad.
What’s the difference between vector images and raster images?
Vector images are created on a computer using points and lines with programs such as Illustrator or Corel
DRAW. Logos or illustrations are the most common types of vector images, because they can be enlarged
or scaled down with no loss in quality. Raster images are most commonly used for line art and photos.
Raster images have fixed pixel images.
Can I use graphics from the internet?
Be careful about graphics you fetch off the internet. We do not accept any files in BMP or GIF format.
Images on the internet are optimized for computer screen resolution (72 DPI, RGB Color). Make sure you
choose an image that is optimized for press resolution (300 DPI, and Bitmap, Grayscale or CMYK color) or
your ad will not look as good as you desire.
What do I need to know about placed images in Quark?
Make sure all placed image files meet the requirements described in the Electronic Ad File Type Section.
We recommend that when you place a Raster graphic, that you do not scale it above 100%. Doing so will
reduce the quality of your ad.
What do I need to know about color ad submission?
Please format all color images, placed files and color boxes or elements in your document as CMYK color. If
you’re using spot colors, please specify the Pantone color you wish to print. If your document has a mix of
Black and white, grayscale, and color images, make sure they are in their appropriate color formats in the
program used to create it. For example, if you are using a grayscale photo, make sure it is not set to CMYK
or RGB. If you use a color photo, make sure it is set to CMYK.
What do I need to know about black and white or grayscale ad submission?
Please format all images, placed files and color boxes or elements in your document as black and white or grayscale.
What resolution should I scan line art?
Line art should be scanned in at 600 DPI or above.
Can I submit my own materials for the Enterprise to scan?
Yes. Just be sure that when you submit black and white artwork, that it is not screened We can accept any
graphic so long as it is no larger than 8.5” x 11”. In fact, the bigger the image, the better. Remember that
color logos, images or photos printed from your computer are not likely to have enough quality to scan
properly. Text and forms do not scan well either.
What should I know about fonts?
We can only accept PostScript Type 1 and TrueType fonts. If you submit PostScript, make sure you include
both screen and outline fonts. If you have created your files on a PC, then your output may not be as
expected without your fonts on your disk. We recommend using PDF format with embedded fonts to
ensure that your ad prints as desired.
What media do you accept?
We take Zips, Floppies, CD-Rs, and DVD in MacOS, DOS or ISO 9660 format. We also accept attachments
sent via e-mail to your sales representative. Please alert us before sending any attachment(s) over 10MB.
We suggest you compress your files in Zip (.ZIP) or Stuffit (.SIT or .HQX) Please do not send self-extracting
archives (.EXE or .SEA).
